Welcome to a guide on how to connect PSOBB to
Schthack's server with WINDOWS XP. The PSOBB section nears 2 years now
and many things has changed since, so let's get this started.
Since
SEGA's PSOBB server is down, Here's a list with alternative download
locations with the original links. Many thanks to Break, ShinAsura and
Daco for putting this up. (I'll refer to this as "Daco's site" in the
guide). I'll link the home page of their site here: Daco's site
STEP 1:
Obviously to play you will need a PSOBB (US) client (496 Mb).
You may download it either from Daco's site
OR from NeoTyrant's mirror
Install the client in the default folder for easiness's sake.
Before
you try to install anything else, you will need to patch with SEGA to
get the lastest version of the client (this is where a lot of people
screw up or forget about this step).
You will need the manual patch on Daco's site, which is located here: Mirror#1
OR use the manual patch from NeoTyrant's site, which is the same file as Daco's: Mirror #2
Both (16.1 Mb).
Extract the patch in the PSOBB default directory, which should be C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASY STAR ONLINE Blue Burst
STEP 2:You
will need to create yourself a game account on Schthack server, free of
charge! Make sure you read the Terms of Service before registering.
Click here to register a new account!
Choose an username and password shorter or equal to TEN (10) characters, otherwise you might have issues logging in.
Make sure to note your username/password somewhere, because if you forget or lose it, you're d00med.
STEP 3:Now you will need to edit your hosts file. To do so, click on:
Start --> Run --> and enter this line: notepad.exe c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Then add this line at the end of the file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
#US Version
208.69.57.87game01.us.segaonline.jp
208.69.57.87 patch01.us.segaonline.jp
#JP Version
208.69.57.87 game01.psobb.segaonline.jp
208.69.57.87 patch01.psobb.segaonline.jp
At the end, your hosts file should look like this.
- You cannot play from this point yet. You will need to JP Patch for connect properly. Keep reading as you are almost there!
STEP 4: PSOBB JP PATCH AND EPS4-OFFLINE MODE FIXPSOBB JP PATCH Mirror #1 Schtserv
PSOBB JP PATCH Mirror #2 Daco's
Installation: Just unzip(unrar) in the psobb folder.
Ep4-Offline mode fix <- to extract in the data folder (allows you to play Dangerous Deal with Black paper 2 without problems).
STEP 5:After
installing the JP-EN patch and the ep4 offline-mode fix, Schthack
released an online.exe which is completly noob-proof since it updates
PSO automatically with files that Crono releases. The loader also
contains a news section on people can see what's new with the server,
events and so. Be sure to run it after you overwrite the old online.exe
so that you get the updates right away. This is the online.exe that
come with the JP patch, you can also get it here:
Online Loader 1 or here: Online Loader 2
Overwrite
the existing one of psobb, This Online.exe look for update so you will
never have to worry about getting the latess patch manualy. It also
give you the ability to install/uninstall optional update and to get
the latess importent news directly.
Windows XP users are done, and may start playing from here. For Windows Vista users, keep reading.STEP 6: (for Vista users only)Consider this the last step, which must be completed if you're a Vista user.
v.1.24.15 JP for Vista
This
file is necessary because using it to run the game will allow you to
type properly on Vista, without changing your language and keyboard
settings (and dealing with the ballooned font size as a result of said
changes).
Download it. Put the .exe into the main PSOBB folder,
and use it to run the game from then on, while using the replaced
online.exe for updates and messing with options.
And, don't panic if an antivirus says the file is a trojan.
