[PC - Plataforma] Akuji the Demon

Akuji the Demon is a cute little platformer I came across a long
time ago, but due to a number of reasons, never bothered to upload it.
The game was originally done in Japanese, and there were some
fan-translation projects. The one being offered on, for example, HOTU,
is the one by D-Boy, which I found to be quite inferior. A while back I
found another version, a translation patch done by Do-jin Nyuu, which
is, to be honest, perfect. Now, with the pleasantries and logical
explanation and stuff out of the way, let's review!
When you start the game, you see a very cute demon being all evil
and stuff ^_^ *pats the cute little demon*. So this is Akuji, eh? Okay
then! When you start the game, you get a nice little introduction
story, which, of course, is pretty lame, but it doesn't really matter,
since it's functional and logical enough to give you an incentive to
play the game. That's all I expected, so I'm happy. Basically, what
happened is the following; Akuji was a bad little demon, harassing
people and being a general mischievious little fellow. A 'man of
valor', as it is translated (referred to as 'hero' later on), came and
challenged Akuji. After a fierce battle, the hero won and Akuji was
defeated. Akuji's power was sealed in 9 orbs of power, and strewn
around a dungeon, in which Akuji himself was also sealed. And now you,
Akuji, must regain your power. The flaws in the story are painfully
apparant, but then again, you never know with translations, so I won't
judge the game on that.
So what does it look like? Well, it looks pretty damn cute (yes,
yes, that IS the keyword to this game ;). The cutscene images are
nicely drawn, with vibrant colour and cute little chibi-esque
characters. The sprites are very well-made as well. I noticed a
similarity with Bungaru WA (see author's site), but that's probably
because of the solid blocks out of which the levels are made up. The
levels are nicely designed, with a nice learning curve. You see
something, but you can't reach it yet. You have to pass it by. Later
on, you find something with which you can get to that spot. They're
always far enough apart that you go 'wait a minute!', but not too far
that it becomes a tedious job to get there again. Nice :) There's
always going to be a way of getting somewhere, even if it isn't
completely obvious how from the start.
The sound? Simple, yet effective. Not too much to say about this,
other than the fact that I didn't hear any music, but that might be my
shitty computer. I dunno, I'm just a reviewer, not some kind of game
doctor.
To sum it all up in one paragraph; Akuji the Demon is an enjoyable
little gem. The animation, graphics, sound, atmosphere and gameplay all
add to one another, leaving us with a cute platformer with an attitude.
